We have R 300 000.00 in the kitty and more expected soon.
We understand that supporters of the Robberg shacks all have other significant claims on their generosity.
We ask that you recognise the benefit to the Plett community, both users of the shacks and service providers, of maintaining the shacks as income- and employment-generating opportunities;
We ask that you cast your mind back to the times you have spent at the shacks, and imagine what you would have missed had they not been there;
We ask that you bear in mind the educational and uplifting experience the shacks can offer your children, your grandchildren, and the children of the local communities;
We ask that you imagine what Plett will be like in twenty years time with the current rates of development, and how the visitors to Plett will ever truly experience the wildness and beauty of Robberg without the shacks.
It is estimated that R 650 000 needs to be raised to restore the shacks. Ideally, more than this will raised to serve as a buffer for ongoing maintenance. Please see the Download section for provisional costings, projects plans and shack designs.
This provisional costing was prepared by Alastair Grant, a director of RSCG who is a townplanner and retired architect in consultation with Francois Bosman, owner of Knysna Timber Homes who has significant experience of building with natural materials in rugged conditions.
Funds raised by the RSCG for Project Restore will be collected into and held in an attorney’s trust account in terms of section 78(2A) of the Attorneys Act of 1978 by the Johannesburg firm Read Hope Phillips Thomas & Cadman Inc. (of which PJ Hope, a director of RSCG, is a director).
Funds will be used solely for the purpose of paying for restoration and rebuilding of the shacks and the payment of such maintenance costs as may be agreed by RSCG.
Each person who provides funds, no matter the amount, will be acknowledged as a funder by the RSCG and special requests for “in memoriam” donations will be welcomed.
The RSCG will be entitled to make preferential bookings over the holiday seasons. Each person who donates more than R 25 000 to Project Restore will be entitled to reserve one Reserve Night each year for five years over the peak seasons being the December / January season and Easter. These will be allocated on an equitable basis each year by the directors of RSCG. Please bear in mind that the allocation of such Reserve Night does not absolve the funder of paying the standard rates for the night!
